Muppets song wins the Oscar!

Hollywood, CA - Feb 29, 2012: On November 17 of last year at its main awards event, the HMMA presented the Best Soundtrack award to The Muppets movie a week before the film's release.  Nearly three months later, the song "Man or Muppet" from this soundtrack won the Academy Award for Best Original Song.

The HMMA congratulates Bret McKenzie, writer of this catchy and humorous ditty.  "The Muppets" writer/star Jason Segel and new Muppet Walter performed the melancholy song in the film, marking a pivotal (and perhaps even existential) moment in the comedy.  The only other song nominated in the academy's Best Original Song category was "Real in Rio" from the animated feature Rio, also a HMMA nominee for Best Original Score.  Other examples of HMMA nominees crossing over to Oscar contenders include Warhorse & Moneyball (HMMA Best Original Score nominees), The Help (HMMA winner for Best Score/Song - Movie Trailer), The Descendants and Bridesmaids (Outstanding Music Supervision nominees) for Dondi Bastone and Jonathan Karp respectively

The HMMA continues to be the bellwether event of the mainstream awards season, recognizing many visual projects, composers and music artists well before becoming Oscar, Golden Globe or Grammy darlings.
